Poet Laureate Joe Large announces the 2012 Pancake Supper - with a poem.
February 05, 2012

Only to say that it's two weeks from Tuesday... it will be great...
No they are not hubcaps, they are delicious syrupy pancakes...

So I will be asking for help for cleaning and serving that night...
But mostly my dear Fat Tuesday friends, bring your appetite...

Yes come hungry, get ready, on your pants you might open your flaps...
Syrupy, buttery, tastier than tasty, pancakes the size of Hubcaps...

Wow, look at all the new stuff around, what an incredible array...
computers in our hands tell us everything, in how to live our day...

We find out about coupons, happenings and what our friends are thinking...
We find out cafe specials tonight and what other people are drinking...

So I come to you with a shaking hand, my fear is I might not relate...
My plea is rather old, rather tired, I'm afraid some will think it is quaint...

Bring your iPhone and family too, to the kitchen of old St. Tims...
Rick, Hal and the boys hard at cooking but always showing their grins...

They know billowy goodness wrapped in syrup is better than iPhone apps...
And it's crowning achievement, what makes it a bargain...
portions the size of hubcaps...

"Pancakes are God's pillows"

A hubcap pancake enhances what we have, as we roll on down life’s road...
They show up, they’re fun... and when slathered with butter they absolutely glow...

So you see, pancakes are truly Gods pillows, something like heavenly manna..
They’re good, and get better with butter, syrup even a sliced banana...

I even heard that this may happen, they talk of it a lot in the book of Revelations...
Things would be so delicious, so desired that there would be mighty temptations...

but God in his infinite wisdom knew all of this coming, and just perhaps...
He made our pancakes a powerful shield, these pancakes the size of hubcaps...
